WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE A GREEN CAPITAL?

Updated: May 19

#VALENCIA JUST BEEN DESIGNATED FOR 2024

Green Capital is an award established and managed by the European Commission to recognize cities that excel in caring for the environment and the quality of life of their residents. The city chosen each year serves as a model for green practices and shares its initiatives with other cities.

This award is open to European municipalities that lead in environmental policies aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, the European Green Deal, and the Paris Agreement on climate change.

Benefits of being a European Green Capital:

  • A boost to continue improving environmental sustainability.

  • New opportunities: Green Capitals have successfully exported their eco-friendly products, processes, and services.

  • Increased international profile, networking, and the creation of new partnerships.

The increase in green infrastructure and the promotion of urban biodiversity, the climate mission and energy efficiency, sustainable mobility and the recovery of public space, and sustainable food linked to the local farmland (la huerta) are the pillars on which #Valencia Green Capital candidacy has been built.
