FALLES

Updated: May 19

The Fallas are unique: a festival that involves thousands of Valencians in a collective exercise of creativity, with the falla as the central element. During a few days in March, the city of Valencia transforms into the largest urban art festival to celebrate the arrival of spring. Each year, rituals such as the plantà (setting up the sculptures) and the cremà (burning) of these ephemeral sculptures are repeated.

The Fallas also have a complex network of associations that generate all kinds of activities where fun is guaranteed. The fireworks displays, combined with the vigorous and purifying fire of the cremà, light up the sky. The city of Valencia also becomes an open stage where visitors can be surprised at every corner by the sounds of festive music. The vibrant colors come from the fabrics worn by the falleros and falleras during the official acts, recalling traditional costumes. The typical cuisine completes the experience, which becomes a feast for the senses. All of these are just some of the ingredients that make this festival so unique.

In fact, its creative values and ritual practices, which have been repeated every year for decades, led to the Fallas festival being declared an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO on November 30, 2016. We invite you to capture its essence and experience magical moments, always following the recommendations to enjoy a safe festival.

Welcome to the Fallas!
